Construction work is well underway on the new Werneth Primary Care Centre on Featherstall Road South in Oldham with foundations and piling complete and erection of the steel frame underway.
The centre will bring together a number of existing GP practices in the Werneth area as well as a wide range of health and wellbeing services all under one roof, providing services to around 20,000 patients.
This is the sixth LIFT scheme to be developed in Oldham. It will ease and address numerous estate problems by replacing a number of old premises, which provide little or no room for expansion of services, with a purpose-built medical centre uniting medical, nursing, therapy and social care services, capable of responding to the new NHS policy direction.
As part of the Housing Market Renewal area, the development also provides a significant opportunity to combine regeneration efforts for the benefit of people in Werneth.
The new centre is due to be complete and open to the public in Summer 2011.
